About us

We are Madrisa – a large family dedicated to creating an environment where our guests feel completely at home.

On the slopes in winter, on the hiking trails in summer: our mountain environment has a lot to offer year-round. To ensure everything runs smoothly, 130 employees carry out their duties in the winter and 50 in the summer. Whether in catering, technical services or administration – we collaborate closely, tackling tasks as a team, and breathe life into what we do. To us, Madrisa is not simply a job, but a place we actively help shape and enjoy being a part of.

The Madrisa gondola lift opened in 1965 and has served as a key gateway between the village of Klosters and the sunny Madrisa plateau ever since. This gondola lift was the first of its kind, using the Bell/Wallmannsberger system, and it marked a significant technical advancement for the emerging winter tourism industry in the region by enabling comfortable transport to the Saaser Alp.

In the decades to come, the area gradually became a popular destination for excursions and winter sports, especially among families. Modern ski lifts, snow-covered slopes, and appealing hiking trails contributed to the region's reputation, along with the warm hospitality for which Klosters is still known for today.

A significant development occurred in 2016 with the construction of a modern six-seater chairlift to Schaffürggli. This lift is barrier-free, features electronically lockable safety bars, and is optimally designed for families and children, making it a pioneering project in Switzerland. Concurrently, investments were made in the gastronomy sector, leisure facilities like the Madrisa-Land children's area, and a high-performance snow-making system.

With its spin-off from the Davos Klosters mountain transport cooperative and the establishment of an independent public limited company, the Madrisa Bahn gained new momentum, supported by local investors and the holiday destination itself. Today, the mountain transport company embodies a successful balance between technical innovation, living tradition, regional ties, and the preservation of a unique natural and experiential environment.
