Klara on the Alp

Tricky riddles and game stations await children and the young at heart along the interactive family theme trail to the Mässplatte. Accompanied by Klara, the jolly Madrisa cow, you can discover the alpine world in a playful way.

  • Starting point: Madrisa mountain station – get your Pixi riddle book from the mailbox outside, next to the big wooden Klara cow.
  • Walking time: approx. 2 hours
  • Distance: 3.1 km

Kneipp path

The Kneipp path, at 1,900 metres above sea level, offers a revitalising barefoot experience and is free of charge to all visitors. Strengthen your natural defences, stimulate your blood circulation, and feel the power of nature as you walk barefoot over stones, pebbles, wood, and through mud.

The Kneipp facility at the Öpfelsee, next to the Madrisa-Hof mountain restaurant, makes for a refreshing cool-down in summer.

Medicinal herbs trail

On the easy hiking trail between the Madrisa mountain station and the Mässplatte, 19 panels with pictures of herbs and information refer to the naturally occurring medicinal plants and their use, as well as to their flowering and fruiting periods, and provide an insight into nature's pharmacy.

Energy trace path

Hike from the Madrisa mountain station to the Mässplatte and discover the forces of earth energies at eight energy spots. Information panels provide fascinating facts about earth energies and their healing power. At the Mässplatte, an energy spot to recharge your batteries and a healing stone to relax await you. Feel the mountain energies!

Alpine park landscape

Just a few minutes walk from the Madrisa mountain station, a 2.5-hour hike takes you past 15 fascinating natural and cultural phenomena. Discover 150 million years of geological history on Saaseralp, Schnittligboden, Mässplatten and Chüecalanda – impressive yet concise!

  • Saaser Alp – 400 hectares of alpine pastures for livestock from Saas
  • Where stones were burnt – ancient lime kiln technique used by alpine dwellers
  • Stone art – rain and water mould bizarre limestone formations
  • Looking out over seven church towers – 7 church towers can be seen from the Mässplätte
  • Little Grand Canyon – a deeply carved mountain stream with waterfalls
  • Weeping rocks – water seeps out of the mountain and creates hanging moss carpets
  • Stone glacier – limestone pavements at the Chüecalanda are reminiscent of a glacier that has come to a standstill
